The number of foreign visitors to the ancient city of Petra in July this year rose by 17 percent to 22,883 compared to the same month in 2011.

A total of 34,116 foreign and Jordanian tourists as well as students had visited the rose-red city in July this year compared to 39,525 in the same period of last year.

The site’s tourism revenues also increased in July this year standing at JD503,348 compared with JD440,782 in the same month last year.
