The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has unveiled its participation in the GIBTM 2013 (Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition) taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from March 25 to 27.

This is Sharjah’s seventh year of participation in one of the region’s most important and specialized events of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions)sectorand brings together in Abu Dhabi more than 300 exhibitors representing 36 countries in the region and from around the world.

Underscoring the significance of Sharjah’s presence and participation in the event, SCTDA Director GeneralHE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa said theAbu Dhabi exhibition is a testimony to the steady growth that the MICE sector has witnessed in recent times and their impact on the economy of countries.

He said the Abu Dhabi exhibitionshowcasing the best of the MICE sector in the region is a great opportunity for Sharjah to promote its own world-class conventions and meetings facilities and infrastructure and make the most of its participation. The emirate that is today recognized as a leading global destination because of its cultural diversity and tourism sector is also home totop-notch convention and meeting facilities, added Al Midfa.

Hesaidthat Sharjah is investing heavily in infrastructure and facilities for the growth of the business tourism sector, includingdeveloping a modern road network, sophisticated convention and conference facilities, galleries and high-end hotels and shopping centers placing the emirateamongstleading business tourism destinations in the region.

He pointed out that Sharjah had been a pioneer on this front founding Sharjah Expo Center in 1977 which was the only facility of its kind in the region at the time hosting international exhibitions and conferences attracting and providing a platform to thousands of local and regional industries and investors throughout the year.  Facilities like this make Sharjah an ideal business tourism destination for the whole region.

The SCTDA Director General said Sharjah is looking forward to showcasing the best of the emirate’s amenities, facilities and incentives provided in the business tourism sector and bolster its position as a leading destination in this niche tourism sector.

It is worth mentioning that the GIBTM Abu Dhabi exhibition, which is in its seventh year, attracts more than 2,400 participants and 300 exhibitors from 36 countries that include business tourism destinations, industry leaders and investorswho come together to exchange ideas and experiences and explore opportunities and trends in the business tourism sector.
