Test flights began in Iraq’s Erbil airport after the first aircraft arrived at the airport on April 1st from Turkey.

The new airport, featuring a runway 4800 m long and 90 m width , which is the longest runway in Middle East and the fifth-longest runway in the world coming after airports in (China – Russia – South Africa – the United States).

Stafford Clarry, airport director said that the airport can receive 150 flights daily and accommodate three million passengers .

It was built by the Turkish company , Makyul Genghis , and designed by British company Scott Wilson group on an area of 27 000 square meters and includes 17 gates .
