Moroccan Travel Market, the international Fair for tourism professionals held for the 3rd time from the 14th to 17th January 2010 in Marrakech.

MTM, which combines Business and meetings in an incredible and festive framework in the magical city of Marrakech, was a success for many exhibitors.

Despite the global economic downturn Morocco saw a 6 percent rise in the number of visitors to 8.35 million in 2009, while numbers fell in rival holiday destinations Tunisia and Spain. Government and industry officials are forecasting a further 10 percent growth in numbers for 2010.

‘We aim to realise growth of 10 percent, or three times the world trend that is forecast,’ said newly-appointed Tourism Minister Yassir Znagui at MTM. Although last year income from tourism dropped by 5.7 per cent to 52.4 billion dirhams despite higher visitor numbers, the government expects to see that trend reverse in 2010.

The MTM fair welcomed more than 13,000 visitors from Europe, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Americas.
