Egypt has decided to stop granting visas to foreign visitors on arrival at its airports in a move that is being criticised as damaging to both tourism and business at a time when the country is desperate to revive both.

Only tourists travelling in groups will be able to obtain visas on arrival. All other visitors will have to apply at Egyptian embassies before travel. The new rules abolish a facility that had been available to citizens of the US, the European Union and some Arab countries.
