Continuing to expand its network, Pegasus Airlines has launched scheduled flights between Istanbul and Batumi starting on 8 October. This new international destination was announced at a launch held at Istanbul’s Radisson Blu hotel in Batumi.

Chairman of Pegasus Airlines, Ali Sabanci, who hosted representatives of the Batumi media, spoke about the launch of the new route saying that Pegasus clinches its existence in the Caucasus with the addition of Batumi, its second Georgian destination after Tbilisi:

“As the airline company who makes flying reachable in Turkey, we also carry out our mission on international platform. We fly to a total of 59 destinations in 25 countries and with our Batumi flights we are serving a second destination in Georgia, to which flights started in October 2010. Thus, we have made flying more accessible in this region for our guests by widening our flight network in the Caucasus, after Europe, the Middle East and the Balkans. With the potential and opportunities that they hold for Pegasus the Caucasus, the Middle East and the Balkans are a priority for us. In particular the Caucasus, which consists of six countries with a total population of 63 million, already has 1.5 million guests flying internationally. We believe that this region has a long way to go in terms of economic growth and trade opportunities. With our scheduled flights and competitive prices, we introduced and continue to introduce our guests to the ‘Pegasus way of flying’. To date we have carried 174,287 guests on our Tbilisi flights, which started in October 2010, of which 45.6% have travelled on to other countries via Istanbul. And over an average of three months, 53% of these guests flew at discounted prices. Today, we continue with the Batumi route. As 2011’s fastest growing airline we are aiming to continue expanding in the same vein.”

Batumi–Istanbul flights started on 8 October, with guests being able to fly to Istanbul every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at fares starting from just €49.99. More detailed information about flights and ticket prices can be found on
