Istanbul Jazz Festival kicked off at The Marmara Esma Sultan Mansion

The 19th Istanbul Jazz Festival organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) under the sponsorship of Garanti Bank for the 15th time kicked off with the opening ceremony and concert held at The Marmara Esma Sultan on Tuesday, 3 July.

Esteemed guests of the festival as well as musicians to perform in this year’s edition participated to the ceremony hosted by Simge Fıstıkoğlu.

During the ceremony Neşet Ruacan, who is one of the most prominent musicians of Turkey with his guitar technique and mastership and who has great contributions to development of jazz in Turkey, was presented with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” of the festival.

The ceremony continued with the concert by famous contemporary jazz vocalist Elif Çağlar, who is appreciated with her album “M-U-S-I-C” and her quintet with significant jazz artists. Elif Çağlar Quintet performed a joyful and dynamic repertoire composed of funk, motown and nu-soul songs.

The 19th Istanbul Jazz Festival to be held between 3-19 July prepares to meet Istanbulites with 50 concerts and more than 300 local and international artists. Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre, Istanbul Archaeological Museums, Istanbul Modern, Salon, and The Marmara Esma Sultan as well as santralistanbul Kıyı Amfi, which was used as a concert venue last year for the first time, and Haliç Congress Centre and Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum, which will be used within the festival for the first time, are among the 20 venues which will host concerts of the Istanbul Jazz Festival this year.

Tickets for the 19th Istanbul Jazz Festival can be purchased from İKSV (Nejat Eczacıbaşı Binası, Sadi Konuralp Cad. No: 5 Şişhane) and through Biletix sales channels (BİLETİX sales channels, BİLETİX call centre (0216 556 98 00), and www.biletix.com) up to two hours before the concerts. Tickets will also be sold at the concert venues on concert days.
