gulf-air-bahrainBahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the eGovernment Authority making Gulf Air the official carrier for the 2013 United Nations Public Service Forum, Day and Awards Ceremony; which will be held under the Royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The international event will be held in Manama from 24 to 27 June 2013 and is expected to attract over 700 leading figures from more than 90 countries. The Kingdom of Bahrain is the fourth country in the world, and the first in the Middle East, to host and organize this forum outside the UN Headquarters in New York.

The MoU was signed by eGovernment Authority CEO Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and Gulf Air A/CEO Maher Salman AlMusallam.

Mr. Al Qaed highlighted the importance and benefits of holding such a key global event for Bahrain, stating: “this Agreement comes as part of enhancing cooperation between public and private sectors in several fields; today we are proud to hear the announcement that Gulf Air is the official carrier for this international event which reflects the airline’s vision and keenness to reinforce Bahrain’s leading position at all levels. Hosting this forum in Bahrain is a multi-faceted leading initiative that contributes in achieving the goals of the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, and interpreting the key principles of the vision through entering into international partnerships with a view to boosting the economic growth.”

Gulf Air A/CEO Maher Salman Alusallam commented: “Gulf Air is honored to support the United Nations Public Service Forum, Day and Awards Ceremony 2013 and be part of an event that will showcase the Kingdom of Bahrain on an international level. We are proud of our partnership with the eGovernment Authority and look forward to supporting and facilitating the arrival of participants to this event.’’

“As the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier we endeavor to support all events that contribute in strengthening the Kingdom’s position locally, regionally and globally and we are committed to supporting the economic development of Bahrain and promoting its investment infrastructure, in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030’’, concluded Mr. AlMusallam.

It is noteworthy that hosting the UNPSF, UNPSD and UNPSA was announced after finalizing the official agreement between eGovernment Authority CEO Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOG) Director Haiyan Qian, during their meeting in December 2012 in New York City.

The celebration of the UNPSA 2013, which is the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service and eGovernance, comes as a worldwide award for projects and public service institutions that contribute in areas of delivery of services in eServices citizen engagement and eGovernment, in addition to institutions that add unique and innovative concepts in the public service arena.
