Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air hosted 18 candidates from the Management Information System department at the Applied Science University of Bahrain, sharing information about Gulf Air’s Information Technology department, and the role of IT in facilitating the airline’s business processes.

During the visit, the students were given a presentation of Gulf Air’s IT infrastructure, systems and practices by Gulf Air Director Information Technology Division, Dr. Jassim Haji and then taken to visit Gulf Air’s state-of-the-art, energy efficient Data Centre.

“As the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Gulf Air actively supports the local community. It is a pleasure to host the visit of the Applied Science University students to impart practical knowledge and information and give them a greater understanding of the role of IT and the importance of this field both within the aviation industry and in general,” commented Dr. Jassim Haji.

Gulf Air’s Information Technology Division is focused on introducing advanced technologies and innovative initiatives aimed at improving the airline’s business efficiency to deliver value to customers.

Earlier this year, Gulf Air opened its Data Centre – one of the most environment-friendly IT centres in the country – as part of the national carrier’s commitment to promoting green technology in Bahrain. 2013 has also seen Gulf Air’s IT department named winner in the ‘Virtualisation’ category at the Network World Middle East Awards 2013, honoring the airline’s on-going technology innovations. More recently, the airline received the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification for its information security management systems.
