Qatar Airways signed a memorandum of understanding with the Educate A Child (EAC) programme that was launched in November 2012 to bring quality primary education to millions of out of school children.

The partnership is focused on working together to promote the Educate A Child programme and to collaborate on special projects in key markets of mutual interest.

The memorandum of understanding was signed at a High-level Strategic Meeting in Doha focused on accelerating progress towards attaining the second Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education by the end of 2015.

At the meeting, Educate A Child announced several memorandums of understanding and agreements with a range of organisations, including <st1:policysmarttags.cwspolicytagaction_6 tagtype=”5″>private sector and NGOs. Working with such a diverse range of partners allows EAC to catalyse innovative learning solutions for the world’s hardest-to-reach children – those affected by extreme poverty, conflict, natural disaster and prejudice.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Akbar Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways is proud to be associated with such a commendable cause. The partnership we officially marked today represents the common bond we share in spearheading global initiatives that impact communities in a progressive and forward-thinking manner.

“One of our key strengths as a global airline is that we cover the globe right from our doorstep, here in Doha, uniting people together and bridging barriers. The exposure we will generate through our international passenger base will benefit the awareness and involvement levels of the Educate A Child project exponentially,” said Al Baker.

Mary Joy Pigozzi, Director of Educate A Child said: “We are delighted to be working with Qatar Airways, and we look forward to working with them to raise awareness of the important work that EAC is doing across the world. EAC has supported over 600,000 out of school children into learning in its first months of operation. We are confident that by building this new level of collaboration, with partners such as Qatar Airways, we will be able to reach millions more in the coming years.”

Following the signature of this memorandum of understanding, the partners are finalising details of a full partnership agreement, which is expected to be signed in the coming months.
