Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region mad an inspection visit to the site of the first phase of Etihad Rail, UAE’s first national rail network which link the principal centres of population and in dustry of the UAE.

Sheikh Hamdan was received by Nasser Al Suwaidi, Board Chairman of the Etihad Rail, Matar Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of the Board and other officials of the company.

He was briefed on the progress of work in preparation for the impending launch of Stage One, which will facilitate the transport of granulated sulphur from sources in Shah and Habshan to the port of Ruwais for export.

Sheikh Hamdan toured the main control centre in Al Mirfa and reviewed the progress on the Shah – Habshan line and phase 2 which will see construction of lines connecting the railway to Mussafah, Khalifa and Jebel Ali Ports.

Sheikh Hamdan applauded the leadership’s support to the development projects. He said the railway network was part of the federal government’s 2021 vision which is aimed at diversifying economy through investment in infrastructure projects.

He also commended the role of the Etihad Rail in implementing the ambitious project which reflects the unity of the UAE and the strong bonds with fellow GCC countries.
