Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organized suhoor dinner at Al Majaz Waterfront which is one of the Emirate’s most popular landmarks and includes a number of cultural and recreational activities for families.
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General of SCTDA has reaffirmed his commitment to working with the hotel industry, which has been witnessing strong growth with increasing number of tourists.
Al Midfa said that it was events like these that gave the Authority an opportunity to strengthen relations with industry partners and encourage community spirit between the management and staff of the Authority — away from the routine of daily work.
The number of hotel rooms in Sharjah has increased to around 10,000 with the Emirate receiving more than 1.9 million tourists last year. The number is expected to go up this year as work develops on new hotel facilities.
Al Midfa said that this has been an eventful year with the Emirate hosting a series of international festivals, special events and cultural and recreational activities as part of the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital 2014 celebrations, reflecting the distinct cultural identity and heritage of the Emirate. He emphasised that the efforts and support of the tourism industry partners played a major role in the success and growth of sector and development of Sharjah’s tourism product.
