The much awaited UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship, the Sharjah Grand Prix 2014, got underway Thursday in Khalid Lagoon under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, who will also flag off the exciting grand finale of the race on Friday at 4.00pm and crown the final world champions.
Hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority for the 15th consecutive year, the Sharjah Grand Prix will have top Formula One drivers from around the world fighting for the World Powerboat Championship crown.
The much awaited Sharjah race once again brings lots of action-packed fun and thrills with the top international powerboat racers — Philip Chiappe from France, Alex Carella and Shaun Torrente (both representing Qatar) — fighting for the Crown.
The UIM’s final World Championship Points Table, 2014 puts Philippe Chiappe from the French team ahead of the pack with a total of 50 points. Alex Carella, who led his team to World Championship victory last year, comes second with 47 points. Shaun Torrente representing the same team with 44 points is not far behind.
A fully-equipped media centre has been set up on the terrace of Hilton Sharjah, offering a perfect view of all the fun and action down in the shimmering waters of the Khalid Lagoon during the World Championship that attracts thousands of motorsports enthusiasts and international media every year.
