Black Week Festival
During November, Black Week, the critically-acclaimed crime fiction themed festival, will return to Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah. Guests of the hotel will have access to an exciting programme of panel discussions, as world famous detective and mystery novel writers gather at the hotel to celebrate this literary genre. This year’s festival will be themed around the Belgian author, Georges Simenon and special guests will include Russia’s Boris Akunin.
Immersive theatre performance
The hotel has joined forces with theatre company Kumbaraci50 to offer an immersive experience for art and history lovers. The hotel will turn into a stage for the interactive play Pera’nın Zamanı, or The Time of Pera. Guests can embark on a journey through time in rooms that bear the names of iconic guests including Agatha Christie, Greta Garbo, Ernest Hemingway, Franz Joseph and the Grand Pera Ballroom, which has hosted numerous events in its 120-year history. The play will be staged on 18 and 19 October and tickets must be purchased in advance.
Ilham Gencer at Akbank Jazz Festival
Renowned for hosting truly remarkable events such as balls and concerts throughout its long and colourful history, the hotel’s Grand Pera Ballroom will welcome the legendary jazz pianist Ilham Gencer to perform on 14 October as part of the Akbank Jazz Festival. Ilham Gencer wrote his first composition aged five and now, at the age of 90, he is recognised as one of the most influential jazz artists in the world. The hotel’s Orient Bar has also been incorporated into the Akbank Jazz Festival’s programme of events. Here, Murat Meriç, the writer of “Pop Dedik” (That’s What We Call Pop) and “Şarkılarla Memleket Tarihi” (The Story of Our Land with Songs) will narrate an unpublished Turkish history of jazz.
‘Saturday Morning Concerts’ return with world-famous musicians
In collaboration with IDEA MUSIC, Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah is set to re-commence its traditional Saturday Morning Concerts on the 15 October, attracting world-class international musicians to perform in the Grand Pera Ballroom. Anjelika Akbar, the highly regarded pianist and composer will kick-off the proceedings on the 15 October. Performers confirmed for the rest of the autumn include: Kevork Tavityan, Fügen Yiğitgil, Meltem Cumbul, Can Okan, Cihat Aşkın and Cana Gürmen.
Musical duel on stage
The Grand Pera Ballroom, will also host a musical duel between two world-class tenors, Cenk Biyik and Atilgan Gumus. The two singers will challenge each other on stage, offering music lovers the perfect chance to enjoy top quality classical music. The duel will take place on 12 October at 8pm.
